Getting Ready

Before you begin installation, complete the following checklist.

Make sure that you have received all of the following materials:

For new Sequencher purchases:

• Sequencher 4.6 application CD
• Sequencher USB or Parallel key
• Registration card
• Sequencher Manual

For Sequencher upgrades:

• Sequencher 4.6 application CD
• Sequencher Release Notes

Networked Sequencher purchases also include:

• Sequencher Admin CD
• Client CD

Make sure that your computer meets the following minimum requirements:

• Windows NT, 98, ME, 2000, XP
• 64 MB RAM
• 40 MB hard disk space

To determine whether your computer meets these requirements, right-click on the "My Computer" icon and look at Properties.

Installing Sequencher 4.6

PLEASE NOTE: You must have Administrative privileges in order to install Sequencher

• Insert the Sequencher 4.6 CD-ROM into your computer’s CD-ROM drive.
• Open the CD drive and double click on the Sequencher 4.6 Win.EXE icon to launch the InstallShield Wizard.

  

• Click Next.

By default, this installer creates a Sequencher 4.6 folder in a new Gene Codes folder in your Program Files folder on your hard drive.

You also have the option to select a different installation location by clicking the Change button and choosing your desired destination folder.

• When you are happy with your installation settings, click Next.

  

• Click Install to begin the installation.

  

• Click the Finish button after the installer has completed.

You will find that a shortcut to Sequencher 4.6 has been added to your desktop and Gene Codes/Sequencher 4.6 has been added to the Start/Programs menu.

You may be asked to restart your computer.

• Click Yes to restart immediately, or click No to restart later. You will have to restart before you may begin using Sequencher.
• Eject the Sequencher 4.6 CD-ROM from your computer’s CD-ROM drive.

Installing the Sequencher key

For standalone USB keys:

• Install the USB key in a free USB port. Powered ports on the computer itself are preferred over un-powered keyboard ports.
• Check that the light on the USB key is on.

For standalone parallel keys:

• Install the parallel key on the back of your computer in your parallel port (the same port as many printers use).

Network licenses of Sequencher require a network key rather than a standalone key. You must complete the Server Installation instructions before you will be able to use Sequencher 4.6.

Registering Sequencher 4.6

There are two ways to register your Sequencher license:

• Register by mail by completing the blue registration card and dropping it in the mail.
  
  OR
  
• Register online by going to the http://www.genecodes.com/sequencher website and clicking on the Sequencher Online Product Registration link. Please fill in the required information.

Note about Gene Codes Corporation’s Maintenance Agreement

Every license of Sequencher is accompanied by a full year of Gene Codes Corporation’s Maintenance Agreement. This includes both technical support and upgrades. If you have any questions concerning the installation or operation of Sequencher 4.6, please contact us. We want to hear from you.
