Getting Ready
Before you begin installation, complete the following checklist:
Make sure that you have received all of the following materials:
For new Sequencher purchases:
- Sequencher 4.6 application CD
- Sequencher USB key
- Registration card
- Sequencher Manual
For Sequencher upgrades:
- Sequencher 4.6 application CD
- Sequencher Release Notes
Networked Sequencher purchases also include:
- Sequencher Admin CD
- Client CD
Make sure that your computer meets the following minimum requirements:
- Macintosh operating system 10.2 and higher, or
- Macintosh operating system 9.2 for Classic
- 128 MB RAM
- 35 MB hard disk space
Remove all previously installed versions of Sequencher:
- Drag the Sequencher folder from your hard drive to your Trash Can.
- Under the Finder menu on OSX or under the Special menu on Classic, select Empty Trash…
Installing Sequencher 4.6
- Insert the Sequencher 4.6 CD-ROM into your computer’s CD-ROM drive.
- On OSX, open the CD drive and double click on the Sequencher 4.6 OSX installer icon in the OSX Installer folder. On Classic, open the CD drive and double click on the Sequencher 4.6 Classic installer icon in the Classic Installer folder.
On OSX, you will be prompted to provide the installer with your user name and password. NOTE: On OSX, you must have Administrative privileges in order to install.
- Enter your password and then select OK.
After authentication, the installer displays the following dialog:
You have the option of changing the Install Location.
- Click Continue.
The installer then displays the following dialog:
- Click Install.
The installer places a Sequencher 4.6 folder in the Applications folder on your hard drive by default and an open Sequencher folder will appear on your Desktop.
- Create Shortcuts.
To create a shortcut for launching Sequencher, drag the Sequencher 4.6 application icon to your Dock.
- Eject the Sequencher 4.6 CD-ROM from your computer’s CD-ROM drive by selecting File->Eject “Sequencher 4.6” on Mac OS X or Special->Eject on Classic after selecting the Sequencher 4.6 CD icon on your desktop.
Installing the Sequencher Key
For standalone USB keys:
- Install the USB key in a free USB port. In general, Sequencher 4.6 does not recognize USB keys that are connected via an ADB to USB converter. Powered ports on the computer itself are preferred over un-powered keyboard ports.
- Check that the light on the USB key is on.
Network licenses of Sequencher require a network key rather than a standalone key. You must complete the Server Installation instructions before you will be able to use Sequencher 4.6.
Registering Sequencher 4.6
There are two ways to register your Sequencher license:

Register by mail by completing the blue registration card and dropping it in
the mail.
OR
- Register online by going to the http://www.genecodes.com/sequencher website and clicking on the Sequencher Online Product Registration link. Please fill in the required information.
